Ruth has worked extensively in English and Spanish language media. She played Elena Chavez, America Chavez’s mom, in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS directed by Sam Raimi, and previously worked with Raimi in DRAG ME TO HELL. Other films include GAME OF LIFE, 5th of JULY, MURDER IN MEXICO. Ruth starred in the groundbreaking Showtime series RESURRECTION BLVD. Additional TV credits include SWITCHED AT BIRTH, HAUNTED, GHOST WHISPERER, NYPD BLUE, BEVERLY HILLS 90210 (recurring), She was directed by Franco Zeffirelli at Rome’s Cinecittá Studios, and she starred in the award-winning web series YLSE.
Her voice credits include Disney/Pixar’s CARS ON THE ROAD (Disney+), Pixar’s Golden Globe and Oscar-winning COCO (dir: Lee Unkrich), she was Lolita opposite Val Kilmer’s Zorro in the 2012 GRAMMY nominee THE MARK OF ZORRO, Disney’s ELENA OF AVALOR (recurring), a starring role in the Fwak! animated feature LOS CAMPEONES DE LA LUCHA LIBRE, HANDY MANNY, KING OF THE HILL, among others. Videogames include CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE, SLY COOPER 3, DEAD RISING 3, GTA SAN ANDREAS.
On stage, Ruth has played lead roles at top equity houses including Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre, South Coast Repertory, The Goodman Theatre, The La Jolla Playhouse, The Denver Theatre Center, the Cincinnati Playhouse, The Guthrie (u/s), the LATC, the Long Beach Opera. and Cornerstone Theater.

As a writer, she was featured on the cover of the Writers Guild of America’s Written By magazine for being the first writer to join that union via her work in digital media. She created, wrote, and produced the award-winning, Latina-driven, bilingual web series YLSE, which won the 2010 IMAGEN Award for Best Web Series (the first in this category) and Cal State LA’s REEL RASQUACHE Best Web Series award. Her short story, “My Misses the Writer,” was published in UCLA’s Westwind magazine. And her short story, “Language Skills,” was adapted into the 2021 short film, ANDREA.
Ruth’s been featured in Written By, EMMY magazine, People en Español, Latino Leaders, Hispanic, Latino Future, Japan’s NHK, Al Jazeera America, and TV Guide. She’s been a guest speaker at conferences, colleges, and universities including UCLA, USC, Emerson, Northwestern University, Loyola Marymount University, University of Arizona, SAG-AFTRA, WGA, NHMC MediaCon, NALIP, and Digital Hollywood.
